15 November 2019

Dear Parents and Carers,

The whole school marked Remembrance Day during our assemblies on Monday, silently praying for peace and thinking about the impact of war both on those who serve in the armed forces and those who are made homeless by conflict. At both the juniors and the infants I was so pleased to see how respectful all the children were. We then introduced the week’s theme of being peacemakers, helping to solve arguments, stand up to unkindness and controlling our tempers. In a week that is marked nationally as Anti-Bullying Week, these themes were especially powerful, although I was very keen to tell the children that at HTPD, every week is anti-bullying week!

It was just great to catch up with so many of you at our junior school parents’ evenings. I hope that you enjoyed hearing about all that your child has achieved already this term. I look forward to next week’s conversations at the infants. If you’ve missed out on booking an appointment, do get in touch with either the office staff or your child’s class teacher. These consultations are so important and one of the ways that we make sure our home-school partnership stays strong.

Finally, we were delighted to have been nominated for a new Guildford Borough Council award for the school which has contributed most to sporting success in the town. Nick Walker, our sports leader, attended a celebration evening just last night at the cricket club in town at which we were thrilled to hear that we had won! Along with our sport coordinator, Laura Sutton, he gladly accepted the trophy as the leading Active School in Guildford – and may appear in the Surrey Advertiser shortly! The winner of this local award is now entered into a similar Surrey wide competition. What a great encouragement to our dedicated staff, and to our wonderfully active children! Well done everybody!

With best wishes, Clare

Thought of the week: “If you are sensible, you will control your temper.” Prov 19, v 10. Be strong inside!

WHOLE SCHOOL

All parents/ carers are reminded that long hair needs to be tied up for school. This is especially so for PE, but as every day involves physical activity, hair should always be tied up. Also, please keep novelty hair decorations (such as large bows, added ears, or dangly bits!) for special occasions and not for school.

INFANT

Menu - Week 3

HT Sport this week from Laura S

We're in the middle of a busy couple of weeks of school sport. Last Friday the Y6 football team played in the the Guildford Primary School tournament held at King's College against 12 other schools. After a disappointing start the team had some tough games but slowly built momentum and finished the day with an emphatic win against Northmead. On Friday it's the girls chance to shine in the same competition. The Y4 dodgeball team tasted victory on Tuesday at the Guildford Y4 Dodgeball competition at Bushy Hill school, all returning with gold medals around their necks. After many false starts with bad weather the Y5 netball teams finally got to play their first matches against Rydes Hill and QE last Tuesday. Everyone played really well and are looking to improve their match skills against Tormead and QE next week.

Next week it's the turn of the Y6 Dodgeball team to see what they can do at the Y6 Dodgement competition at Bushy Hill. The Y5 and Y6 football teams have a home match against QE on Thursday and the Y5 & Y6 netball teams have an away match v Send on Monday. HTSC News

Hi Everyone,

Here’s our update for this week for you – it’s a bit longer than usual so please bear with us!

Bonfire night – thank you to everyone who came to the fireworks and for all the volunteers that helped with the event and the clear up afterwards– we really appreciate it. Thank you also for remembering your Keep cups – there was a lot less rubbish left on the field and hope your drinks stayed warmer for longer.

Lost on bonfire night – if you found a grey and red Alpkit torch/lamp near the bonfire please can you contact the school office to return it to Zac Williams.

Christmas Fair
We are busy planning the Christmas Fair. Your child(ren) should receive an envelope with a donation letter and raffle tickets this afternoon with all the details. Class reps will be in touch separately regarding donations for the Year Group hamper prizes. As usual we are taking the theme from the school’s Christmas play (A Christmas Carol). Year 3 – The Past, Year 4 – The Present, Year 5 – The Future and Year 6 – Christmas Day.

2nd Hand Uniform
If you have any uniform age 7 years and upwards that you no longer need, please contact Simone Chidlow at simonechidlow@googlemail.com to arrange collection/pick up. Please do not bring to school as we do not have anywhere to store it. We will be selling uniform at the Christmas fair.

Local business fundraising
Present Bunny, a local online gifts company, was started as a family project by two of our Holy Trinity parents and have kindly offered to donate 10% of sales to HTSC and FOPS using discount codes below.
Ordering is simple:
1) Visit www.presentbunny.co.uk
2) Place an order,
3) In the comments field please add your child's class (not your child's name)
· Any colour requests (please note we cannot guarantee colour but will do our best)
· the word Santa if the gifts are Christmas presents for your children, and you don't want your child to bring the delivery home.
3) Add the code PDNov19 or HTNov19 (depending on your child's school) during the checkout.
4) Receive confirmation email.
The code will discount the delivery charge as all orders placed using the code will be delivered to you via your child's class, unless Santa is stated in the comments. It also determines which PTA will receive the donation (10% of your purchase).

Closing date for orders is 22:00 Monday 18th November. Orders will be dropped to the school for delivery via your child's class either Thursday or Friday that week.

Present Bunny was started as a family project to learn about business, and what is involved. After a very memorable family meeting about the name and many discussions about the products that would be popular, the Present Bunny website was born. It has been fun learning and working together and we hope you like Present Bunny's products. Any queries, please contact Katie at presentbunny@gmail.com
