HTPD 19/7/19

19 July 2019

Dear Parents and Carers,

The year is now drawing to a close – and at HTPD there are so many different events and milestones that help us to celebrate. I hope that you enjoyed reading your child’s report. I did! It was fantastic to read about so many individual successes, ranging from wide participation in school clubs, to overcoming particular challenges, to some wonderful examples of outstanding work. I especially liked comments from teachers about children living out our school values in their learning, relationships and character. Do take time to share the teacher’s comments with your child if you’d like to...we all need to hear praise and be told that we’ve done well.

My own daughter, Ellen’s graduation on Wednesday was a lovely occasion. It marked the end of her formal education with a fantastic sense of achievement all round –but I’m glad to say, it certainly doesn’t mark the end of her learning. Like me, she’s committed to lifelong learning, and starting work in August as a junior doctor will certainly give her plenty of opportunities to learn! I’m really grateful to Helen and Debbie, and the whole team, for looking after the school in my absence. It was a day to be a proud mummy!

Next Monday, the week begins with our Celebration Afternoon (1.30 at the infants, 2pm at the juniors). Do come and take a look at all the term’s work, and feel free too to visit your child’s next class – and meet their new teacher. Please do make sure that you also settle up any outstanding payments with the finance office so that we start the new academic year with no monies owing. Thank you.

Then, on Tuesday, we have our end of year services – with a leavers’ assembly for Year 2 at Pewley at 9.15 and a final farewell to Year 6 as Y2-6 visit Holy Trinity Church on Tuesday afternoon (1.45pm). You’d be welcome to come along to take part, and we’d love parent helpers to walk down to the church straight after lunch. If you are free, do pop into school slightly earlier at 12.30 for some strawberries and cream – we’re holding a gathering on the Year 6 roof garden to say thank you to those of you that have been part of our magnificent team of junior school parent helpers all year. Our parent helper thank you at Pewley will be on Monday morning just after drop off. We’d love to say a thank you in person!

And then, we finally arrive at the summer holidays – with school closing for summer on Wednesday (1.30 at the infants, 1.45 at the juniors). I do wish you all a very relaxing, happy and safe time together over the long break and look forward to seeing you again in September. To our Year 6 children, I say a fond farewell and hope that they come and visit us soon! Happy holidays!

With best wishes, Clare

Thought of the week: It’s rubbish…loneliness. Do you believe God is always with you?

PE Kit
As we approach the end of term we would be really grateful if parents can have a look around at home for any HT sports kit your child may have borrowed.

This may include:
Royal blue athletics t-shirts
Baby blue competition t-shirts
Royal blue swim squad t-shirts
Royal blue football kit
Navy blue netball kit, especially skorts

This year the PE department bought over 20 pairs of trainers for children to borrow so they could still take part in PE if they didn't have their PE kit with them in school. We also allowed children to borrow spare House PE t-shirts and spare shorts which, along with the trainers, are meant to be brought back to the office after their lesson.

We now have under half the amount of trainers and almost no spare PE kit left. If your child has come home with a pair of trainers that you haven't purchased, please can you return them to the office before the end of term.

We would really appreciate any spare house t-shirts and PE kit that your child has grown out of, or you would like to donate if your child is leaving this year.

Shoes for Nicaragua
In Nicaragua, children are often not allowed to attend school if they can't afford shoes.  We are collecting used children's shoes, any kind (but especially black school shoes) to send out to Nicaragua. So, if your child needs new shoes for the next academic year, this is the perfect opportunity to do something great with the old ones. Just send them into school, between now and early September and leave in the box at the lower entrance. Many thanks Laura (Ben, Walnut Class)

Stuck for ideas to do this summer? Christ Church Holiday club is an amazing fun and exciting time for children from YR to Y6 - it runs from Wed 31st July to Sun 4th August from 10am to 1.30pm each day, and is just £15 per child. This year the theme is Wild West and we are going all out with games, drama, crafts and bible stories. Book online through the church website www.hclub.christchurchguildford.com.
